Monday, 27th October 2008. Hosting Scotland Closing For Business
All customers of Hosting Scotland should be advised of this email that has been sent to them:After seven years of growing up from a small startup to providing a service that has built it's reputation on providing one of the friendliest and most affordable hosting providers in the UK, we're sorry to say that today we discussed something that we hoped we would never have to do. Unfortunately, the recent months of the now all-to-familiar credit crunch have taken their toll on Hosting Scotland and like many other small firms, it has forced us to cease trading with immediate effect. What does this mean for me? ---------------------------- First things first. Don't panic! We're not switching out the lights tomorrow. However, as are unable to fund our server environment, our agreement with the companies involved in physically holding our equipment will be unable to last past February 2009. Therefore, on or around the 6th of February 2009, our servers will be shut down and any web sites remaining on them will go offline, so please read on to find out what you need to do. What do I need to do now? ------------------------- At some time prior to February 6th, you must secure alternative hosting for your web site and domain. Hosting Scotland will ensure that any transfer requests you submit to us are dealt with promptly to make life easier on you. Please note however, if you leave your transfer until the last moment, you run the risk of your website or email going offline and transfer being impossible (it can in some exceptional cases take weeks to transfer domains). Therefore, we would ask if you wish to transfer your domain to another company, that you inform us no later than January 15th. If you do not, we will assume that you wish the domain name to lapse. Our Apologies ------------- This truly is our saddest day, and if it was at all avoidable we would do so, however we have tried all options open to us and the current situation has left us with no alternative. On behalf of the entire Hosting Scotland Team, Thanks for your loyal and in many cases, long support over the years.
1 April 2008: E-mail server not processing mail [RESOLVED]
The primary mail server mail.hostingscotland.co.uk was unable to process mail from 0100 hours this morning until 1120. This was due to a large spam attack which filled the hard disks. The issue has now been resolved and the server restarted. Mail should be a little slow for the next few hours whilst the outstanding mail is processed. Thank you for your understanding.
11 October 2007: Possible Server Outages on 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, and 24 October 2007 from 9 p.m [CLOSED]
Please note that during the above days, essential server maintenance is ongoing and as a result, the server you may host from may be offline for short periods of time from 9pm onwards.
Thank you for your understanding whilst we carry out these works.
21 August 2007 15:25 - 25 August 2007 14:00 [RESOLVED]
Mail Delays and Outages
This issue has been resolved by temporarily closing down the anti-spam software on our mail
server. As a result, we are moving everyones mail to a new, better performing mail server
that will be able to cope with the influx of spam hitting the servers at the moment.
Work on this is ongoing at present and a full annoucement of the changeover will take place
later this month via email.
11 August 2007 12:25 - 18:30 [RESOLVED]
Network Outage for Primary servers
We send our apologies to our customers today for the near total lack of
service between the hours of 12:25 to 18:30 today due to a trunk network
outage in Germany. This event was outwith our control however we understand
the inconvenient nature of such an un-anounced outage.
We thank you for your understanding in this matter.
11 June 2007 11:00-12:00 [RESOLVED]
Emergency power outage at Gourock
For safety reasons it has been necessary to remove power to our Gourock
servers.
This will impact the availability of the phpmyadmin service and redundancy of
the DNS service until the power can be restored, which we estimate to take
no more than 5 hours.
In the meantime, all other services are normal, and SQL can still be accessed
via the command-line tool. Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate
to contact us.
1 March 2007 [RESOLVED]
Connection issues to webmail and phpmyadmin
Please be aware that we are experiencing connectivity issues at present at our Gourock site which impacts the availability of our webmail and phpmyadmin service. As always, the alternative webmail and phpmyadmin service is available should you find that the service is down.
We are having repairs made this week to the communications line which is experiencing large amounts of noise, thus the dropped connections that have occurred of late.
20 February 2007 - 01 June 2007 [RESOLVED]
Webmail Issues
A number of our customers have made us aware that they are experiencing issues
with the new webmail client, specifically in the areas of large attachments
and where an account has multiple email addresses.
Please be aware that we are currently looking into this issue and we are also
seeking an alternative to the existing client should we fail to resolve these
issues.
Please be aware that the old webmail client is still available in the meantime
so you can use this should you be experiencing any issues with the new webmail
client, however this issue only appears to be affecting a very small minority
of customers.
The link to the old webmail client is as follows:
